Dr. Thomas Choponis graduated with honors from Ferris State University with a Doctor of Optometry degree. Throughout his academic journey, he honed his skills through rigorous externships at renowned institutions such as Cherry Health in Grand Rapids, MI, the Wyoming VA Health Care Center, and Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
Before transitioning into optometry, Dr. Choponis amassed years of invaluable experience as an optician, fostering a deep understanding of optical intricacies and patient care. His commitment to excellence is evident in his approach, as he collaborates closely with individuals to achieve the best possible vision outcomes and ensure overall ocular wellness.
Since 2017, Dr. Choponis has been dedicated to serving the Upper Peninsula community, bringing his expertise in both refractive procedures and the comprehensive diagnosis and management of various eye diseases. With a specialized focus on conditions like dry eye, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts, he ensures optimal ocular health for his patients. Dr. Choponis is also adept at evaluating and fitting specialty contact lenses, offering personalized solutions for his patients’ unique needs.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Choponis finds joy in his roots, having grown up in the town of Luther, MI. He embraces an active lifestyle, indulging in hobbies such as hiking, skiing, and ATV riding, all while cherishing moments spent with his beloved family. Actively engaged in community service, Dr. Choponis proudly contributes to the Lions Club in Sault Sainte Marie, lending his time and expertise to various volunteer initiatives.
Dr. Choponis shares his life’s journey with his loving wife, Stephanie, and their two children, Madison and Natalie. Together, they embraced a new chapter in Sault Sainte Marie in 2017, where they have found both professional fulfillment and personal joy.
